Gillian, who celebrated her birthday with a trip to Paradise Wildlife Park with Monique from Unique Care

One brushstroke at a time 🎨

This is our wonderful client Gillian, who celebrated her birthday with a very special day out to Paradise Wildlife Park. She adores animals — especially pandas and meerkats — so we surprised her with a close-up feeding experience.

We also had the joy of supporting Gillian on a birthday outing to Art for Fun, a local creative space where guests can choose and paint their own ceramic pottery.

With gentle guidance from her carer, Gillian carefully selected her favourite colours and a beautiful ceramic piece to decorate. It was a wonderful way to express herself — painting, chatting, and laughing throughout the session.

Occasionally Gillian enjoys a gentle and uplifting outing to Stephens House, a beautiful Grade II listed building surrounded by tranquil gardens and a charming café.

Her carer, Debbie, arranged the visit to encourage light exercise and social companionship — something we know makes a big difference to both emotional and physical wellbeing. Together they explored the flower-filled grounds, took in the history of the house, and enjoyed tea and conversation in the garden café.

Moments like these aren’t just fun — they’re meaningful. They build confidence, spark joy, and remind our clients that life doesn’t stop with care — it grows with it.

Keeping the Mind Active 🧠

Our client Terry had two hip operations and has recovered so well after we have supported her with exercises daily to build strength and endurance.

This kind of companionship-led care makes all the difference — keeping clients engaged, empowered, and above all, happy 💗

We’re so pleased to share this lovely photo of our client Terry enjoying her time at the U3A Scrabble Club, supported by her wonderful carer, Elizabeth.

Terry, who experiences some cognitive memory challenges, absolutely thrives in stimulating social settings like this one. Before the session, Elizabeth made her a healthy lunch at home, and together they took the bus to join the club — a fantastic opportunity for connection and mental stimulation.

Scrabble is often referred to as “yoga for the brain”, and Terry loved every moment, playing two full games and meeting like-minded people in a welcoming and safe environment.

Just because you have dementia doesn’t mean you stop doing what you love. 🍋

Sheila had a wonderful day baking lemon cake with her carer Elizabeth — measuring, mixing, laughing, and even polishing her beautiful candelabra till it sparkled ✨

Together they stirred up more than just cake — they stirred confidence, joy, and purpose.

With the right support, independence can thrive.

He sang, he smiled, and he made every moment count 💜🎶

Our dear client Michael, who we sadly lost recently, was a much-loved member of Singing for the Memory in St Albans. He didn’t just attend — he sang, danced, laughed, and made wonderful friends, especially with Shirley, one of the group’s incredible volunteers. On his birthday, we surprised him with cake, song, and love.

Debbie, one of our dedicated carers, also took our dear client Michael on a beautiful outing to Kenwood House — a place he truly loved.

Michael had a deep appreciation for art and history. He enjoyed exploring the house, admiring the paintings, and walking through the stunning flower gardens. Debbie always made these trips extra special — encouraging conversation, sharing stories, and gently supporting exercise in a meaningful way.

These moments remind us how important it is to nurture not just physical well-being, but also the heart and mind. 💗 Michael may be gone, but the music, friendship, and memories he left behind will never be forgotten.

Remembering Mel 🎶

Despite his dementia, Mel lit up the room with his smile and spirit. We shared many afternoons here with like-minded people — stories, tea and coffee, dancing, laughter, and unforgettable songs.

A few years ago, he joined us for wonderful outings filled with music, quizzes, dancing, and laughter — and made genuine friendships along the way.

Even while living with dementia, Mel never lost his spark. He loved being around like-minded people, and we loved seeing him shine at every celebration.

We have such fond memories of Mel — his spirit, his sense of humour, and his zest for life. At Unique Care, we’re proud to have supported him with outings that brought joy, connection, and meaning.

🌟 Mel sadly passed away during COVID, but his voice and laughter continue to echo in our hearts. He reminded us that joy and connection are always possible, no matter the diagnosis.

Forever in our hearts, Mel. 💗

Remembering Percy 💙

Percy brought smiles wherever he went.

We were lucky to share so many lovely days with him — out in the community, enjoying the little things, laughing, chatting, and always making us smile with his wonderful humour.

He had a charm and warmth that made every outing special.

Forever missed, never forgotten.
